Drew University Summer Intensive Program: Our three-week (Monday-Friday) intensive program is designed for the serious, pre-professional dance student aged 10-18. The program concentrates on strengthening the dancer’s technique with classes in ballet, pointe, partnering, and modern dance. Technique classes are taught by renowned faculty and students have the opportunity to learn repertory works by world-class choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, David Parsons, Robert Battle, and more. Classes in Pilates, yoga, dance history, nutrition, and lectures with guest speakers on anatomy, dance-related injury prevention, improvisation, and performance enhancement are also included.
Movement Invention Project (MIP): This unique summer dance intensive in New York City, under the artistic direction of Alexandra Wells, is for advanced dancers ages 17-22. This two-week experience encourages risk taking, creativity, and the development of improvisational skills. Dancers work with a nurturing, supportive faculty composed of teachers, choreographers, and mentors from diverse backgrounds (2009: Jill Johnson, Andrea Miller, Kyle Abraham, Sidra Bell). For more information contact MIP@njdte.org.
International Summer Exchange Programs: NJDTE currently offers two international exchange programs for advanced dancers with Vancouver Arts Umbrella, Canada in the “Coast to Coast Exchange” and with Dance Motion Tel Aviv, Israel in the “Crossing Borders Exchange.”
